Jeremy Mutton, General Manager of Sandals Emerald Bay, loves fresh coconuts, walking his two dogs, and enjoys personally welcoming guests to the Exumas by greeting them at airport. His team members, people who go the extra mile to make guests feel special and keep them intrigued, inspire him to do such things. According to Mutton, there are many exciting experiences to be had amid the Exuma cays. Besides receiving superb butler service and tasting the flavors of the resort’s newest restaurant, no guest, he says, can leave the island without swimming with the pigs (yes, pigs), or standing on the Tropic of Cancer line that runs through the island. Find out the many reasons why Mutton and his Sandals Emerald Bay team are ‘simply the best.’
SL: How long have you been the General Manager of Sandals Emerald Bay?
JM: Approaching two years now and I still come in everyday in awe of the emerald, clear waters. I often wonder if I will ever tire of that view. Highly unlikely.
SL: What do you like best about being General Manager?
JM: Meeting so many interesting people – many of whom become wonderful and dear friends who keep in contact throughout the year.
SL: What is your most memorable guest story?
JM: Too many! But a most recent one still in my memory is of a couple that frequently visited Exuma many years ago but had not returned for about 30 years. To celebrate the beginning of their retirement they recently vacationed at Sandals Emerald Bay and the gentleman asked some of our team members if they knew of a lady in a particular area of the island who used to cook for them at their vacation home. The guest thought the request was a long shot, however our team member knew of the lady in question and as a surprise, the following day my team member secretly brought in the lady to meet the gentleman – it is typical of the Exumians who are so warm and friendly to do something like that. The look on the gentleman’s face was priceless!
SL: Do you have a favorite island cocktail or beverage?
JM: Coconuts are abundant on the island so anything with coconut fresh off the tree.
SL: Is there anything new or exciting going on at Sandals Emerald Bay?
JM: Our new fire features have received rave reviews and create such a romantic and intimate setting. The sky at night is quite spectacular on Exuma so to see couples stargazing beside the fire pits is very special.
SL: Sandals Emerald Bay is known for its unique dining options, what’s your favorite menu item from any of the restaurants and why?
JM: La Parisienne, our French fine dining restaurant opened last year and has some authentic and inspiring French dishes that I particularly enjoy. But oftentimes, you can find me at Barefoot by the Sea, chowing down on Bahamian Conch fritters complimented by a spicy dip…a real Bahamian experience.
SL: What is one special thing your team members do to ensure that guests will return again to Sandals Emerald Bay?
JM: The personal attention our team members give to guests continues to blow our guests away. Besides receiving an everyday touch of excellent service, guests are quite fond of the fruit and ice cream served daily at the pool and beach.
SL: If there was a song out there that could define the Sandals Emerald Bay experience, what would it be and why?
JM: Simply the Best – we play this at our Returning Guest Dinners each week to great acclaim! We’re simply the best, and equally, so are our amazing guests!
SL: What makes the resort different or unique when compared to other Sandals Resorts?
JM: Being amid the beautiful and plentiful cays on the island of Exuma, surrounded by the most magnificent crystal clear waters, with the most amazing and challenging Greg Norman Golf Course, make Sandals Emerald Bay a truly unique and memorable destination.
